Avocado exports to Spain amount US$10.5 mn. in first quarter

Between January and April 2015, avocado shipments to Spain totaled US$10.5 million

The result led to a growth of 8% compared to the similar period last year, Peru's Commercial Office in Madrid (OCEX Madrid) announced.

Remarks were made in the framework of the official visit the Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva and the government delegation paid to Spain.

From this total, frozen avocado shipments stand out after having increased by 219%, thus reaching a total of US$68,600.

The demand for Hass avocado variety is very considerable, especially at hotels, restaurants and catering. This is the result of the trade strategy applied by the Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry through OCEX Madrid.

While in Spain, Minister Silva participated in the Spain-Peru Business Meeting, where she presented the topic "Peru: Trading Opportunities."

Likewise, she was one of the panelists at the Forum "Agenda Forum Peru. In the Future" organized by PRISA Group. It gathered Spanish entrepreneurs such as Antonio Llarden, CEO of Spanish company Enagas.

Minister Silva highlighted the agro-exports growth and the favorable opportunities Peru offers to Spanish investments in an interview by Spanish newspaper El País.

Exotic fruits

OCEX Madrid indicated blueberry exports grew in the first quarter (period) of this year.

Shipments reached US$41,890 and represented a growth of 426% compared to similar period in 2014.

The promotion carried out by OCEX Madrid, as well as the preference of Spanish consumers have led to increasing the demand for the product.
