Peru: 5.7 tonnes of seized drugs incinerated

5.7 tonnes of drugs were burned on Thursday at the National Police Special Operations (DIROES) Unit headquarters located in Lima.

 

The incineration process was in charge of the Committee for the Destruction of Seized Drugs, attached to the Interior Ministry.

 

The Deputy Minister of Internal Order General Mauro Medina Guimaraes headed the act. Also attending were representatives of the Judicial Power, Public Ministry and National Police.

 

Among destructed narcotics were cocaine base (2042.2Kg), cocaine hydrochloride (3036.8kg), opium alkaloids (5.8Kg) and others. The seized drugs totaled 5704.7Kg.

 

In order to set the corresponding legal framework, the verification processes and the chemical analyses were conducted.

 

This is the 3rd illegal substance incineration act, which has taken place in Peru the current year.

 

In January, 1.9 tonnes were destroyed. During the previous incineration some 4.6 tonnes were eliminated.
