The President of the Peruvian Sport Institute, Saul Barrera, toldAndina news agency that Peru is looking for 15 medals as a result of the country’s participation in the Panamerican Games Toronto 2015.
Barrera added that Peru has on average won between nine and ten medals in the last nine editions of the games.
And of the total 15, the president expects Team Perú to win two gold medals.
Since Peru has given more investments into the sports federations over the last years, Peru will try to double the medals received in Guadalajara 2011. In Guadalajara, Peru took home 7 medals, two silver and one bronze.
How will Peru do it?
Peru is sending 156 athletes to compete in Toronto for the Panamerican Games 2015, from July 10 to July 26.
Despite complications post its election, Peru will indeed be hosting the Panamerican Games 2019. In January, a meeting was held debating over the qualifications and whether or not Peru was upholding them. The then president of the Peruvian Olympic Committee resigned after charges of embezzlement and the state was being criticized for not making the necessary preparations for the large-scale event.
In the end it was decided that Peru would host.
