Today Peru celebrates Día del Campesino - Peru this Week

The air is festive and smells of free juanes in Peru today. To add to the festivities, Peru also celebrates Día del Campesino on this same day, June 24.

You might have already known that today Peru celebrates San Juan and the festival of the Sun, Inti Raymi. But did you know that it is also Día del Campesino?

Since June 24, 1969, when President Juan Velasco Alvarado established the Agrarian Reform Law, what used to be Día del Indio became replaced with Día del Campesino, according to Andina news agency.

With this holiday the regions of the jungle for San Juan, Cusco for Inti Raymi and the rest of the country for Día del Campesino are united in celebration for the work that the country’s farmers contribute to the growth of the country.
