Peru’s Piura Region nominated as candidate for Maryland Sister State Program

Maryland Secretary of State John C. Wobensmith nominated Piura region as candidate for the Maryland Sister State Program during his visit to Peru’s Consulate General in Washington D.C.

The nomination was made official through a letter from Regional Governor Reynaldo Hilbck, which expressed the interest of such department located in northern Peru.

This way the process in charge of civil society of both communities gets started. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, its implementation will strengthen trade and business ties as well as technology and education cooperation between Piura and Maryland.

Maryland Secretary of State will lead a business delegation on a visit to Piura in the coming months in order to promote direct contact between the two regions.

It should be noted that Maryland’s Port of Baltimore is one of the largest in the United States and Piura has a major port in Paita.
